Last fall I planted a bed of garlic.
It had been years since I’d planted garlic but we use garlic all the time and I was hoping for a good harvest. I kept the bed weeded and watered. I read up on garlic, how to grow it, when to harvest and how to dry it. As the leaves began to turn brown I decided to harvest. After all the “experts” said to harvest your garlic when the leaves were 2/3rds died back.
Was I ever surprised at my harvest! The stems didn’t seem that thick and I wondered if the bulbs would be small and not formed well. There are a few smaller sized bulbs but for the most part the bulbs are well formed and quite large. I do believe we’ll have enough garlic to get through the winter.
I set up two sawhorses in our garage with an old screen door on top. It was a perfect place to dry the garlic. You don’t want to dry it in direct sun. Now our garage smells like garlic but I don’t mind.
Wonder if I can figure out how to braid the garlic?
Won’t be long before I’ll be planting garlic again.

I feed my chicks garlic to help their immune system. I could have used a big harvest this year! What did you start with? Did you buy cloves from a store?
Never thought of growing garlic!! That’s an awesome idea, our family eats it A LOT.
Jayne,
I had purchased some garlic that had been grown locally, I then planted the bulbs.
Congrats on your great garlic harvest! Looks delish
Oh my! That looks wonderful…I might have to give this a try!
That’s an awesome harvest! Ours was OK, but it was first year and we learned lots. It’s amazing that it’s almost time to plant for fall, isn’t it?
I can’t believe it’s almost time to plant garlic again, where did the summer go?
Nancy that is quite a haul. I harvested so much earlier this year. We’ll be planting garlic again before you know it and this year in an even bigger bed. Can’t get enough garlic
Love Garlic, I will be planting more in the fall, we did get some from the garden this June, but they are small, but everything I planted did come up. It is a nice satisfaction to watch it pop up in the early spring, while yet the ground is cold. You did get a bumber crop and it is beautiful.
What a wonderful harvest! You will enjoy it very much.
Looks nice. I tried garlic last year and I guess I did something wrong because it grew but never separated into cloves. (I probably got too impatient LOL)
